Historical Documents Digitized in CD-ROM
The America-Japan Society has digitized its numerous historical documents, some of them dating back to the pre-war days, in the form of CD-ROM so that they are assured of preservation and made available for research purposes.
These valuable documents include manuscripts and taped transcription of speeches given at AJS programs from 1917 to 1970, as well as letters and miscellaneous documents showing the depth of activities undertaken by the Society. There are copies of speeches by Dr. Inazo Nitobe, Ambassador Joseph C. Grew, Vice President Richard M. Nixon, Dr. Henry A. Kissinger and many other prominent leaders. Documents include records of the Japan-America Students Conference, a survey of American attitudes towards the Sino-Japanese War and many others.
These items show that during the early days following its establishment in 1917, the Society played a unique role of being the sole window for diplomacy and business interests to discuss differences between the peoples of the two countries and to resolve many problems.
Please contact AJS office, if you are interested in the documents.
